Android is an open source mobile platform currently developed by the Google. This means that while Google is the main developer, the code is released for anyone to take and modify it as they please. This has led to a great number of devices being loaded with the Android operating system. The open source nature enables manufacturers to quickly create devices and release them without having to create an operating system from scratch for each one. While it is great to have such an open mobile operating system that people can load on any compatible hardware it also presents a unique set of problems.
